How to Brew Polar Espresso on the Stove Top

How to Brew Polar Espresso on the Stove Top: Senior Roaster Ryan’s Guide

When you want to brew Polar Espresso just right, our Senior Roaster, Ryan, turns to his trusty moka pot. It’s his go-to method for drawing out all the sweetness, body and acidity in our winter blend. Here’s how to brew it perfectly at home on the stove top.

What You’ll Need

Method: Brew Like Ryan

Follow our step-by-step guide below or watch the video here.

1. Heat Your Water

Bring water to the boil in a kettle. Using very hot water helps the brewing start cleanly, without over-extracting.

2. Fill the Bottom Chamber

Unscrew the moka pot and carefully pour hot water into the bottom chamber up to the safety valve. Do not exceed that level.

3. Add Your Coffee

Place the filter basket on top of the chamber. Fill it with Polar Espresso until it’s level or full. Do not tamp or press the grounds; they need space for water to flow evenly through.

4. Assemble the Moka Pot

Secure the top chamber by screwing it on tightly. Wrap a towel around the base if the water chamber is hot, safety first. Make sure it's sealed snugly so no steam can escape.

5. Brew on the Stove

Place the moka pot on medium-high heat. Keep the lid open. Within a couple of minutes coffee will begin to rise, bubbling into the top chamber.

When you hear a gurgling sound and the flow slows to more bubbles than liquid, turn off the heat. Close the lid and let the coffee rest for 30 seconds to 1 minute, this lets volatile aromatics settle and gives you a more balanced cup.

6. Serve & Enjoy

Pour your freshly brewed espresso into your favourite cup. Expect a full body with tasting notes of cinnamon, stone fruit and roasted almonds, a vibrant acidity, and a sweet caramel apple finish, everything Polar Espresso has to offer.
