Trading Post Coffee Roasters Achieves Carbon Neutral Certification - Sustainability at the Core of the Roast

Press Release: October 2025

Independent, family-run Brighton-based coffee roastery, Trading Post Coffee Roasters, is proud to announce that we are now a certified Carbon Neutral business, a major milestone that underlines our commitment to putting sustainability at the heart of everything we do.

Driving sustainability from bean to brew

At Trading Post Coffee Roasters, our journey has always been fuelled by the belief that great coffee and environmental responsibility go hand in hand. Now sitting alongside our certifications from The Soil Association and Rainforest Alliance, achieving Carbon Neutral certified status means we have measured, reduced and offset our greenhouse-gas emissions across our operations, from sourcing and roasting to packaging and delivery. Through this process, we have:

  • Conducted a comprehensive emissions audit of our roasting, logistics, packaging and retail coffee house operations.
  • Introduced further efficiency measures in roasting, energy use, and waste-management.
  • Partnered with credible offset programmes to neutralise residual emissions, enabling us to deliver a truly carbon-neutral service.
  • Reinforced our existing sustainable sourcing practices, such as purchasing ethically grown beans and favouring low-impact supply chains.

These efforts complement our long-standing approach to sustainable coffee: we roast in small batches locally in Brighton, sourced from farms that practise environmental stewardship, and prioritise recyclable or reusable packaging in our wholesale and direct-to-consumer channels.

Why this matters

The climate crisis is one of the most significant challenges facing the coffee industry and the wider planet. As consumer and business choices increasingly reflect the importance of climate action, we believe that our commitment to carbon-neutral operations is not just a badge, it is a continuation of our mission to champion coffee that is kind to people and kind to the planet.

For our customers this means:

  • Every cup of Trading Post coffee now supports a business that has taken tangible steps to minimise its climate impact.
  • Our wholesale partners can confidently align with a roaster whose sustainability credentials are independently verified.
  • We raise the bar for independent roasteries, proving that small-batch, local operations can also operate responsibly at scale.
What’s next

While certification marks an important milestone, it is far from the finish line. At Trading Post we view this as a springboard for further innovation. This year and beyond we will:

  • Set new targets to reduce absolute emissions across our roasting and logistics operations.
  • Expand our use of circular-economy practices, such as re-usable packaging, used-coffee-grounds recycling, and low-waste cafés.
  • Continue to partner with growers and producers who share our values of regenerative agriculture, biodiversity and fair labour standards.
  • Engage our community — customers, wholesale partners and coffee drinkers — in transparent reporting on our environmental performance.

A message from the team

“Sustainability has always been at the core of what we do. Achieving carbon-neutral certification is a proud moment for our team and our community, but it’s really just the beginning,” says Ryan Deol, Head of Wholesale at Trading Post Coffee Roasters.
“We believe that great coffee and great climate responsibility must go together. Our beans should taste great, our roasting should be sustainable and our planet should be protected - that’s the roasting legacy we’re committed to.”
